Art World

I have always considered myself an artist but the title only seemed to apply on the rare day I had a pencil or paintbrush in my hand. For about three years I worked for a financial company in Bryn Mawr, PA. My job was a casualty of the financial implosion at the end of '09. I found myself with an empty calendar and a lot of planning to do...

I have since shown my work in several group exhibitions, secured a short term teaching position with the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership, and been awarded a Studio Assistant Scholarship for the Penland School of Crafts and a four week residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska. If I have learned anything from this experience it is this: at no point did I cease being an artist, even when ripping out countless staples to prep files for scanning, even when spending hours composing letters for opportunities.

The "Art World" is not a real place where one can be or not be. It is a construct of magazines, galleries, academia and museums. As I chase down a career as a professional artist, I have learned that the "Art World" is none of my concern.
Don't get me wrong...I would gladly accept an offer from Marlborough Gallery should they read this blog and by some miracle offer me a solo premier.
All I'm saying is... there's hope for all of us.
